At QPain, we are experts in pain therapy and treat a range of pain conditions, including:
After an initial consultation and detailed assessment, your QPain specialist may recommend one or a combination of the following treatment options:
We ensure patients are completely comfortable and fully understand a recommended approach before embarking on any treatment. If adjustments are needed, we keep you informed to ensure you remain confident and happy with your treatment.
New ideas and discoveries are constantly being made and shared by pain doctors on a world-wide basis. Pain specialists in Australia and other countries meet frequently to discuss new treatments and approaches for helping people in pain. We can inform you of the latest developments.
Many of our patients have benefited from our advanced technological treatments and holistic approach to achieve sustainable pain minimisation and a return to normal life.
Making an appointment with one of our pain specialists could be the first step on your journey to better manage or minimise your pain or live pain free. A referral from your doctor or health professional is required. All referrals are accepted and we cater for urgent appointments so you will experience short or no wait time.
Please bring recent x-rays and scans, ensuring reports are included. If you do not have the reports, please request them from your GP.
You will also need a copy of your current medication list that includes only the medications you are currently taking.
During your first visit your pain specialist will undertake a comprehensive assessment at your visit, talking with you to gain an understanding of your situation and history. This is so your doctor can better understand you and the impact of your pain, so that they can develop a comprehensive treatment plan for you. They will then discuss the treatment options which best suit you and recommend an appropriate management approach. We give patients advice on costs and eligibility requirements relevant to their situation, can provide outpatient programs, and admit privately-insured, self-funded and Department of Veteran Affairs and WorkCover patients.
After the first session your doctor will write a letter to the person that referred you to us.
Please understand that sometimes people are seen who have acute medical problems that need immediate attention.
In addition, the nature of chronic pain means that people attending the clinic can be running late, sometimes because of their pain or sometimes because they come a long way to see us.
These issues can mean that your doctor may be running late on the day of your appointment.
Please allow extra time when you come to see us and please be patient. Your doctor wants to ensure that everyone, including you, gets effective and appropriate help.
Pain management involves medical (medications and procedures), physical and psychological strategies to reduce pain and improve your quality of life. Modern medical treatment can produce great results and a marked reduction in pain intensity. There are also many things you can do to help yourself.
Maintaining physical, mental and social activity is important but during periods of severe or persistent pain, activity can be difficult. Committing to a gradual increase in general exercise over weeks and months has been proven to help people experiencing chronic pain. If you need to give up an activity that you enjoy, either temporarily or permanently, try to replace it with something equally stimulating.
Chronic pain and its effects has the potential to reduce quality of life for those around us as well. Being aware of the potential impact on our work life and relationships is important – pain causes us stress and exhaustion and can limit our ability to function normally. Speak with your employer and friends and family to ensure they understand your condition and can support you through to recovery.
If you live in a regional area our telehealth services may be available to you. Your initial consultations are face-to face, however, we can use video conferencing technologies to connect with you, and your doctor, to conduct review appointments and arrange admission for treatment if appropriate.
